You will be provided with continuous on-the-job training, including a variety of high-risk licences. These will enable you to take part in a 24-hour roster system where you are on call to provide mechanical support.
During high threat seasons you may also have the opportunity to provide technical support at fire grounds and incidents.

As an Auto Electrician Apprentice, you will work closely with experienced Auto Electricians, gaining hands-on experience in the repair, servicing, and maintenance of DFES vehicles and equipment both in-house and in mobile settings. You will learn to perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, and operate specialised equipment such as overhead cranes and vehicle hoists.
As a Heavy Diesel Fire Appliance Technician Apprentice, you will train alongside skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanics, acquiring practical skills in servicing, repairing, and maintaining firefighting and emergency service vehicles and equipment. You will participate in specialised training, including firefighting basics and 4WD operations, and work on vital tasks like vehicle recovery and pre-delivery inspections.

Auto Electricians are needed to diagnose, repair and maintain our emergency vehicles and other equipment such as aerial appliances, automated computer systems, electric pneumatic systems and various integrated OEM heavy vehicle systems.
We need Heavy Diesel Fire Appliance Technician to look after our emergency vehicles, as well as equipment like hand-held firefighting or road crash rescue equipment, and aerial platform appliances.
Vehicle Body Builders are required to carry out maintenance, inspections and repairs to emergency vehicles, including body building and fabrication.
