Fire system impairment notification

Fire System Impairment Notification

A Fire System Impairment Notice is requested by DFES for fire systems undergoing repair or maintenance work that will extend for a period greater than 30 days before the system is returned to its required operational performance.

The impairment of a fire safety system may impact upon the safe occupation of a building. The impairment may require that you take additional safety and mitigation measures.

Notification of the impairment of an installed fire safety system should be undertaken by those having responsibility over the property and the installed safety systems within it.  This responsibility, in accordance with the Western Australian (WA) Building Regulations 2012, lies with the building owner, local council or private certifier (as appropriate), private alarm monitoring company (where engaged), property manager and/or other relevant parties such as insurance companies.

Submitting a Fire System Impairment notification does not result in DFES acceptance or approval. DFES will not accept any liability for the impairment of a fire or life safety system by others. However, it is important that the DFES are notified and aware of the impairment to best inform any emergency response to the site.
