Volunteer Marine Rescue Services Awards

The Volunteer Marine Rescue Service (VMRS) protects over 13,000 kilometres of coastline with just 1,700 committed volunteers. The VMRS Awards are our way of celebrating the outstanding efforts of our volunteers who have shown a high level of dedication to the VMRS and WA community.

Awards are presented in five categories:

  • DFES Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution
  • MRWA Award for Outstanding Group Contributions DFES Award for Youth Achievement or Contribution to Youth Development
  • Department of Transport Award for Excellence in Marine Safety
  • VMRWA Commander's Award

DFES Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution

The DFES Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution is the most distinguished, and the highest individual honour, in the Volunteer Marine Rescue Service Awards. It is presented to a volunteer who has made an exemplary contribution to the VMRS in the past 12 months.

VMRWA Award for Outstanding Group Operations

The VMRWA Award for Outstanding Group Operations recognises a group who has excelled in all aspects of volunteering for VMRS. It is presented to a group who together have made an outstanding contribution to the VMRS in the past 12 months.

DFES Award for Youth Achievement or Contribution to Youth Development

This award will be presented to:

  • A stand out volunteer or cadet under the age of 25 who has shown exceptional qualities and has made a remarkable contribution in the past 12 months; or a
  • VMRS group who has contributed significantly to the development of youth volunteers.

Department of Transport Award for Excellence in Marine Safety

Selected and presented by the Department of Transport, this award recognises a group who has made a superior effort in raising of the profile of marine safety in Western Australia.

VMRWA Commander’s Award

The VMRWA Commander’s Award recognises the unsung hero within the service that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. This discretionary award is selected and presented by the Commander of VMRWA.

Award Ceremony
Award recipients will be announced at a gala ceremony on Saturday 7 September during the 2019 WA Fire and Emergency Services Conference.
