DFES Awards

2021 DFES Awards nominations open

These awards recognise and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Department of Fire and Emergency Services operational and corporate employees.

Volunteers, employees and members of the public can submit an online nomination here. Nominations close 5.00pm Monday 17 May 2021.

Award Categories

Operational Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution
Awarded to an operational DFES employee who has made an outstanding contribution to the emergency services in the past year.

Award Eligibility:
Current operational staff who have been employed by DFES for a minimum of six of the previous twelve months​.

Corporate Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution
Awarded to a DFES employee who has shown dedication to their role beyond normal expectation in the past twelve months.

Award Eligibility:
Corporate staff who have made a significant contribution to emergency services with their hard work and dedication to duty who have been employed by DFES for a minimum of six of the previous twelve months.

Award Nomination
Tell the judging panel about the outstanding contribution the nominee has made over the past twelve months based on one or more award criteria. As a guide, the submission should be between 500-1000 words in length.

When submitting your nomination, you will be asked to answer four questions:

  • Why are you nominating this individual?
  • Why are their actions considered outstanding?
  • How have their actions affected or benefited others including the community?
  • Any other information?

As part of the nomination you must include a referee(s) who can support the nomination claims.

You may also include supporting documentation, including photos or videos with the nomination. Read the 2021 DFES Awards Nomination Guidelines​.

Nominations can only be submitted through the nomination website​. The website will allow you to edit and refine your award nomination after submitting it right up until the closing date.

Award Judging
A judging panel will assess all eligible nominations by rating them on a scale of 1-10 based on how the nominee meets the criteria. The highest rated nominee will be deemed the category recipient.

The judging panel is made up of:

  • Executive Director Corporate Services
  • Assistant Commissioner
  • Director Office of the Commissioner
  • Human Resources Representative
