Chaplain Ron Wingate will soon say farewell to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
Committed to DFES by the Salvation Army, Ron has provided extensive support to emergency services personnel and volunteers, and members of the public throughout his chaplaincy.
Ron’s involvement with the organisation began as a part-time Associate Chaplain, a role he devoted 13 years to before becoming the principal Chaplain in 2005. He has kept a watchful eye on those involved throughout incidents, to ensure their wellbeing was maintained both during and post incident.
Ron has had an active involvement with the Career Firefighters Welfare Fund for Children, has provided blessings at numerous events, and conducted many weddings, funerals and baby naming ceremonies for DFES personnel.
In 2011, Ron received the then FESA Outstanding Achievement Medal recognising his continual dedication, commitment, compassion and contribution to the community and to emergency services personnel.
Ron will be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help, remarkable understanding of people and what they needed in times of trauma.
His ready smile combined with a softly spoken calmness and excellent listening skills has provided comfort and perspective to countless members of the community and emergency personnel.
We thank Ron for his contribution over many years and wish him all the best for the future.
