DFES supports regional volunteers attending the WAFES Conference by organising and covering travel and accommodation costs.
To be eligible, volunteers must be from a BGU located more than 50km from Crown Perth, where the conference will be held.
Volunteers from a BGU within 50km of Crown Perth are not eligible for travel and accommodation assistance. However, during the registration process they can join a waitlist for accommodation should it become available, with payment required at the time of booking.

Volunteers eligible for flights will be prompted to provide details during the conference registration process. Flights must be chosen to accommodate events volunteers have registered to attend.
For eligible volunteers, accommodation is fully subsidised by DFES for Thursday 3 September, Friday 4 September and Saturday 5 September and allocated based on registered events. Booking will be automatically prompted during the registration process.
As a first preference, volunteers are encouraged to drive to the conference in a DFES service vehicle and carpool with other volunteers where possible.
Those unable to source suitable transport can use a private vehicle to travel to the conference and claim a motor vehicle allowance.
Volunteers who drive to the conference should be aware of the vehicle mileage caps that may apply.
Volunteers who have flights booked can claim a motor vehicle allowance to drive between their home and the nearest regional airport.
If a transfer service is not provided, volunteers may be entitled to claim reimbursement of taxi fares paid when travelling between Perth Airport and their accommodation.
Crown Perth offers free parking at various locations in the complex. Further information on parking options and charges can be found on the Crown website.
Eligible volunteers can claim costs for meals (breakfast, lunch and/or dinner) not supplied as part of the conference or their accommodation booking.
Volunteers can submit a claim form and receipts to the WAFES events team (eventsandawards@dfes.wa.gov.au) to receive a reimbursement.
Please note alcoholic beverages are not eligible to be claimed. This year, all receipts must clearly outline the beverage being claimed.

DFES staff who are WAFES Awards finalists and located more than 50km from Crown Perth will be prompted to provide details for flights and accommodation during the registration process. Travel and accommodation costs will be organised and covered by the WAFES Awards.
All other DFES staff and Career Fire and Rescue personnel, including nominators of a WAFES Award finalist, attending the conference and/or awards gala dinner will need to manage and cover their own travel and accommodation costs with their command or region and ensure they meet the requirements of the DFES Corporate Travel policy.
